Serving the Greater Charlotte Area Since 1972
Acosta Heating, Cooling & Electrical is a full-service HVAC and electrical company dedicated to providing unparalleled service throughout the greater Charlotte area. Zeke Acosta, founder and CEO, has the same philosophy today as when he started his business in 1972: “Do more for the customer than is expected of you.”
Zeke Acosta & the Company’s History
Ezequiel “Zeke” Acosta immigrated to the United States from Cuba when he was 12. His family left the day before the Cuban missile crisis in 1962. They initially settled in New Jersey. During his teenage years, he accompanied a neighbor in the HVAC industry on service calls.
When his family relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, Acosta enrolled in the heating and air conditioning program at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC), completing his associate degree in 1967. Acosta worked in the trades for a few years after finishing school, but at the tender age of 22, he decided to open his own business, and Acosta Heating, Cooling & Electrical was born.
In 1972, Zeke set up a home office in his parents’ house on Buckingham Drive and converted the garage into a workshop. His first customers came by word of mouth and contacts from his time at previous companies. In 1974, the business moved to an 800-square-foot cinderblock building on Tryon Street in the Clanton Park area, and Acosta hired three employees.
The business continued to expand in the 1980s and 1990s and soon outgrew its first building. In 1991, the company extended into the building next door and increased the number of employees to 12. Another milestone occurred in 2001, when, with 26 employees and 18 service vehicles, construction began on a 20,000-square-foot building on Stuart Andrew Boulevard. The company moved in 2002 and continues to operate from that location.
The Next Generation: Lauren Acosta Huckleberry
In 2019, Zeke’s daughter, Lauren, took over the company as president of Acosta Heating, Cooling & Electrical when he decided it was time to retire. Though she is now at the company’s helm, she worked hard over the last decade to acquire her position.
Before working for her father’s company, Lauren worked at Vector Marketing as a seller, trainer, and recruiter for Cutco Cutlery during and after college. However, in 2008, after six years with Vector, Zeke offered her a job selling HVAC, but not before she took HVAC classes at the community college. Once she started working for Acosta, she was a salesperson. She worked as a salesperson for six years, through both of her pregnancies — until she couldn’t fit in crawl spaces anymore.
Lauren has grown the company from a 5-million-dollar business to a 10-million-dollar business. Acosta’s crew now has just over 50 people, thanks to Lauren growing the company as she has. Lauren is also the reason for the electrical division of Acosta Heating, Cooling & Electrical.
Zeke Acosta shares his heating and cooling expertise with the community by serving on numerous boards and committees, including being a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern Piedmont BBB and a service class teacher for General Electric and Trane Central Air Conditioning in Charlotte, NC, Miami, FL, and Reynosa, Mexico.
Acosta Heating, Cooling & Electrical also gives back to the community in other ways. A partnership with the Charlotte Knights baseball team allows the company to host a giveaway at every game. The company is also a big part of Habitat for Humanity’s Critical Repair Division, participating in the yearly Heat for the Holidays contest by installing furnaces in needy families’ homes for free.
