It would be nice if a furnace only broke during the warmer months of the year, when you don’t rely on the heat so often. However, many of our clients can attest to the fact that it happens more often on the coldest day of the year, when you and your family can’t wait for repair service.
If you notice any of the following warning signs, don’t hesitate to bring in an expert for furnace repair.
Age of Furnace
o The average lifespan of a furnace is 15-20 years
o If yours is nearing this age, start planning and saving for a new one
o Old furnaces can fail suddenly, causing stress and frustration
Furnace Repair History
o If you have made a lot of repairs on your furnace, calculate how much you have spent
o Repairing an old furnace can be more expensive than buying a new one
o New furnaces are more efficient and may qualify for local utility rebates
Poor Heating Distribution
o If certain rooms in your home are freezing while others are hot, your furnace is not distributing air correctly
o This can be a sign of bigger problems
o Any popping, rattling, squeaking, or banging noises from a furnace are not good signs
o If the blower runs constantly, or turns off and on, you might need furnace replacement
Not Feeling Well
o If your family members start to notice they have more headaches, burning or dryness in the eyes or nose, nausea, dizziness, or similar symptoms, it can mean that a furnace is leaking carbon monoxide or other chemicals
o Cracks inside the furnace can cause the leaking
o If this is the case, make sure to open windows and ventilate the home before calling a service technician for furnace repair or replacement
Some of these issues can be remedied by furnace repair, while others will require replacement. Plan ahead and make sure you are prepared for this event, especially if your furnace is showing signs of age.
