When winter comes, one of the most dreaded things people think about is the high heating bills. Even when the winter is mild, there are always a couple of days when the temperature seems to plummet. Below are some tips to help your heating bills stay low.
- Use window treatments – If the day is sunny, even if it’s cold, open up your curtains so the sun can come in. However, be sure to close them once the sun has gone down, or otherwise you are defeating the purpose.
- Change your air filter – When you have a dirty air filter in your heater, it is going to work less efficiently. When you put a clean filter into your heating system, your heater won’t have to work as hard to heat your house and your heating bill will go down.
- Change your fan’s direction – Just like your fan can keep you cool in the summer, it can help you keep warm in the winter. Changing the direction is going to force the hot air that is rising to the ceiling back down to your space.
- Check your thermostats – If you have thermostats in different parts of the house, lower the thermostat in the rooms that are seldom used. For example, if you have a guest room, it doesn’t need to be warm in there unless you have a visitor.
These are just some of the things you can do to lower your heating bills. If you use these tips, you will find that your heating bill isn’t as high in the winter.
