Summer is coming, and preparing for the unbearable heat is a good idea. Perhaps your home isn’t as cool as you’d like it to be, and you have heard talk about a mini-split system but aren’t totally sure what that means. Let’s break it down.

A mini-split system has basically two components, an outdoor compressor and an indoor air unit. A mini-split system is great because it’s smaller in size, and thus, can heat or cool individual rooms. Often times, these systems are ideal for rooms, such as new additions, that were impossible to be ducted with the main system. Mini-split systems are also relatively easy to install. They only need on average about a three-inch hole in the outside wall for a simple coil to go through in order to hook it up. There is also a lot of flexibility in where the outdoor compressor unit can be installed, sometimes allowing it to be up to fifty feet away from the house. You can place it in a corner somewhere far away from your house and not have to see it often. A mini-split system is ductless, which is great for your pocketbook as well. Leaking ducts can be responsible for almost 30% of your energy consumption, quite literally pouring your money down the drain or out the window. They also are flexible in their placement inside, allowing them to be installed on the ceiling, or a wall, whichever is most desirable for you.

That’s a little bit about what a mini-split system is. The end all and be all is that they can help make your home more comfortable in temperature. At Acosta Heating and Cooling, we offer mini-split systems and can help you choose the best one for your home. Stop by today to prepare for the heat to come!
